The Unveiling of Star Wars Outlaws

On April 9, Ubisoft unveiled the much-awaited trailer for its forthcoming open-world Star Wars game, Star Wars Outlaws. Developed by Massive, the creators behind The Division, the third-person action-adventure game is set for release in August.

Previous Glimpses and Expectations

This isn't our first glimpse of Outlaws. Last year, Ubisoft treated fans to a preview via its announcement trailer and later, an extended gameplay trailer. Both trailers captured the essence of Star Wars, introducing the main characters—Kay Vess and her robotic sidekick ND-5—as they navigate through the galaxy, dodging the empire and seeking riches.

Storyline and Setting

The game is set between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, a time when the galactic empire is at its peak and most widespread. This galaxy, crushed under an evil regime and desperate for a hero, sets the stage for Outlaws.

Underworld elements smell opportunity as the Empire is in total control but distracted by the rebels. Kay Vess is set to rob one of these criminal leaders to earn her freedom.

Characters' Journey

“In search of true freedom, Kay and Nix will journey through the underworld and across the Outer Rim, taking on jobs, facing foes, avoiding Imperial rule, and recruiting a skilled outlaw crew for one of the greatest heists the galaxy has ever seen,” said Julian Gerighty, Creative Director at Massive.

New Trailer Insights

The new trailer shows Vess and Nix sneaking, running, and fighting across various Star Wars locations. Fans will recognize familiar faces, including Han Solo in Carbonite and Jabba the Hutt, as well as a Sarlac, a Death Trooper, and an AT-ST.

Release Details

The game is set to launch on August 30. However, Ubisoft continues the trend of holding the game for three days unless you pre-order a fancier edition.

Star Wars: Outlaws will be available on Xbox Series X|S consoles, PlayStation 5, Amazon Luna, and PC via the Ubisoft launcher.
