Unlock Respec in Visions of Mana: Late Game Secrets Revealed
Visions of Mana might look cute and casual at first glance, but don't be fooled. Underneath, it offers surprisingly deep team-building mechanics. Each of the five characters can eventually equip one of eight classes, each with its own Elemental Plot that you invest in with Elemental Points. But here's the catch: you won't have enough Elemental Points to learn everything at once. So, can you respec your Elemental Plots? Yes, but not until later in the game.
Respeccing in Visions of Mana
In Visions of Mana, you can respec your characters using a consumable item called Goddess Scales. However, you won't encounter this item until Chapter Seven, which is the start of the game's final act. By this point, you'll have seen most of the main story content.
Goddess Scales are a one-use item, so you can't use them freely to test new builds. Plan carefully before you decide to respec a character.
Where to Find Goddess Scales
You won't find Goddess Scales until the late game. You'll likely first encounter them in treasure chests, which are marked on your map screen. By the time you've obtained all eight elementals, you should be able to collect every treasure chest you see.
Additionally, you can get Goddess Scales from the Grizzly Exchange, a shop run by the Dudbear. Starting in Chapter Seven, you can purchase five Goddess Scales for 20 Grizzly Syrups each. After Chapter Nine, you can buy an additional five Goddess Scales.

By the postgame, you should have around fifteen Goddess Scales, which allows for three respecs per character or five respecs for your main team. However, there are no ways to grind for more Goddess Scales outside of replaying the game via New Game Plus.
Why Wait Until the Postgame?
Throughout most of the main story, you'll have access to the first two tiers of each character's Elemental Plot. By exploring the world and gathering Elementite, you should have enough Elemental Points to experiment with different classes. Only in Chapter Seven will you start obtaining each character's third tier of the Elemental Plot.
Chapter Eight and Chapter Nine consist of the final dungeon and final boss, respectively. There isn't much game left once you start finding Goddess Scales. After you beat the final boss, you'll unlock the postgame content. Visit the Dudbear's Grizzly Exchange again to purchase additional Goddess Scales and Tonics to unlock each character's final tier of their Elemental Plots.
Max out the class of any character's Elemental Plot, and you'll discover that your base class can equip any of the skills of any class you've maxed out. This means you can now cross-class, and you'll need to respec every character to get the most out of this system. Instead of grabbing helpful skills from any line of the Elemental Plot, you'll want to reinvest all your points into two or three classes to make builds that can take on the postgame superbosses.
Final Tips
If you've already respecced everyone in Chapter Seven, you should still have two more chances to respec your party. However, this leaves you short on chances to adjust your builds, especially if you want to rethink your party after finding out a superboss resists every element in the game.
Visions of Mana doesn't have a terribly robust postgame. If you want to use a Goddess Scale before the postgame, it's not the end of the world. But when faced with the hardest content in the entire game, you'll be glad to have that extra security. Make an extra save file after the postgame to be safe.
