Setting Screenshot and Video Formats

Accessing the right settings on your PS5 is crucial for capturing high-quality media. Navigate to the gear icon on your home screen and select "Captures and Broadcasts". Under "Captures", select "Screenshot Format" and switch the setting from JPG to PNG. Although this will result in larger screenshots, they will be of a higher quality. You can always convert PNG files to JPG using image editing software on a computer.

Next, select "Video Clip Format" and change the file type to "MP4" instead of WebM. While this will also result in larger files, the improved compatibility and quality make it worthwhile. You can choose between 1920 x 1080 resolution and 3840 x 2160, but note that the latter only works with WebM videos. The "Create" button on your PS5 controller is your tool for capturing screenshots or enabling video capture. You can assign three different commands to this button: a single press, a long hold, and a double press. Here are some suggestions for setting these commands:

• A single press to capture a quick screenshot, perfect for capturing multiple shots during a cutscene or grabbing a screenshot during intense gameplay.
• A long hold to choose whether to enable manual recording (up to an hour of footage), capture a screenshot, or save recent gameplay.
• A double press to save a recent clip as a separate file, ideal for saving a unique moment in its own video file.

It is also possible to set the length of the recent gameplay clip to suit your needs, from 15 seconds to an hour. For longer recordings, simply hold down the Create button and select "Start New Recording". Be sure to wrap these recordings around the 50-minute mark to avoid an unavoidable indicator appearing on your screen once you cross the 55-minute mark during capture.

Lastly, ensure to turn off "Display Save Confirmation for Screenshots". This will prevent an icon from appearing every time you take a screenshot. However, be careful not to press the Create button too quickly as the notification for capturing recent gameplay still activates and can appear in a screenshot.

Other Settings and Considerations

If you're recording with an external capture device, it is advisable to turn off system sounds like the shutter sound effect when taking a screenshot. To do this, go to "Sound" in the settings menu, select "Audio Output", scroll down to "General", and turn off "Sound Effects".
