Freetoplay loot shooter The First Descendant takes a page out of every freemium game with multiple forms of currency.
The majority of which you earn ingame and upgrade various stats, items, and characters with.
But there's one that requires real money and that's Caliber.
Two Methods to Get Caliber
There are currently two methods to acquire Caliber in The First Descendant and they both require real money.
The first method is the most straightforward.
You can buy Caliber from the ingame store in packages that range from the lowest of 250 to the highest of 5750.
The more you purchase, the more expensive the package.
But like all other freetoplay games with realmoney currencies, the more you buy, the more you receive as a bonus.
- $4.99 for 250 Caliber
- $9.99 for 520 Caliber
- $19.99 for 1060 Caliber
- $49.99 for 2750 Caliber
- $69.99 for 3920 Caliber
- $99.99 for 5750 Caliber
The second method to acquire Caliber is also the more rewarding of the two options, albeit still costly.
To access this method, you must upgrade the free Battle Pass to the Premium Battle Pass which unlocks additional rewards not included in the free Pass.
And one such reward you'll unlock every few levels is more Caliber.
If you're going to spend money on Caliber for anything, start by trying out the Premium Battle Pass.
Caliber rewards deal out small denominations of 25 Caliber per reward level but it adds up if you complete the entire Pass.
Along the way, you'll unlock additional weapons, buffs, cosmetics, emotes, and more making it worthwhile if you intend to play The First Descendant for the foreseeable future.
What to Buy with Caliber
There's plenty to purchase with Caliber from Descendants to cosmetic skins, Starter Packages loaded with ingame items and currencies to convenience items such as Gold Boosts, Kuiper Shard Boosts, and Weapon Proficiency Boosts.
The most valuable items to buy with Caliber include:
- Kuiper Shard Boosts
- Premium Battle Pass
- Descendants
With Kuiper Shards, you can upgrade your character and modules to bolster their power levels and easily navigate the game's mid and late-game content.
The Premium Battle Pass speaks for itself with multiple tiers of unlockable rewards such as Ultimate weapons, EXP boosts, Caliber, emotes, cosmetic items, paint schemes, and more.
Lastly, you can unlock new Descendants with Caliber.
The game revolves around Descendants—unlocking them and playing as them.
A Descendant changes how you approach content, your play style, and the abilities available to you.
But they're costly both in terms of resources and time.
A single Descendant, with very few exceptions, requires many tens of hours of grinding to unlock—sometimes significantly more.
Whether or not you use Caliber to enhance your experience in The First Descendant is up to you.
There's plenty of fun to be had for free and you can unlock new Descendants by grinding without spending a dime.
But if you're finding the game really worth your time and you're looking to invest in it, it might be worth trying it out to see how Caliber improves the game for you.
