In a recent chat with the Friends Per Second podcast, Spider-Man 2's creative director Bryan Intihar drew a parallel between the latest game and 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s third phase. He suggested that if Spider-Man and Miles were their Iron Man, and Spider-Man 2 was like Civil War, the next logical step would be something spectacular.

Osborne wants to know Spider-Man’s real identity, and Octavius knows it. When asked about his notebook scribbles, Octavius responds, "The final chapter."
