After a series of serious threats against attendees and staff led to the cancellation of a major Nintendo Live event in Tokyo in December 2023, the individual allegedly responsible has been arrested, according to Japanese authorities. Details of the Suspect
According to a Kyoto-based daily newspaper and 4Gamer, the unnamed individual linked to the threats is currently in police custody. The only known details about the suspect, aside from the arrest, are that he is in his 20s and works as a public servant in the Ibaraki Prefecture, just northeast of Tokyo. The suspect allegedly sent death threats via Nintendo's contact form on its website, leading to accusations of obstructing the company's business.
Impact of the Cancellation
Due to the persistent threats, the Nintendo Live event, initially planned to return to Japan in January after a stint in the United States in September 2023, was outright canceled. This decision disrupted major tournaments that were set to occur during the event. Nintendo has stated its intention to reschedule these competitions and the entire event, but no new dates have been revealed yet.
