Details on the Canceled Star Wars FPS
On February 28, IGN disclosed that Respawn’s under-development Star Wars FPS has been canceled. This was communicated to the staff through a memo from EA's entertainment president Laura Miele.
Words from EA's Entertainment President
“It’s always hard to walk away from a project, and this decision is not a reflection of the team's talent or passion for the game,” Laura Miele stated. She emphasized that focusing on delivering the next installments of iconic franchises is a crucial part of blockbuster storytelling.
Future Projects for the Team
The team previously working on the canceled Star Wars game will now be reassigned to other projects. These include Apex Legends, Iron Man, Black Panther, and the third installment of the popular third-person action series, Star Wars: Jedi.

Recent Layoffs at EA
News of the game's cancellation comes as EA confirms additional layoffs at the publisher. Today, EA announced the dismissal of approximately 670 employees. According to an email from CEO Andrew Wilson, the layoff process will be largely completed by early next quarter. This is part of a larger plan at EA to move away from licensed IP, which the publisher doesn't believe will thrive in the evolving industry.
Other Affected Projects
It was previously reported that these changes led to the cancellation of at least one game, which appears to have been Respawn’s Star Wars FPS. This could be the same as the Mandalorian-themed action game reported earlier this month.
