Discover the Next Big Thing in Fantasy Gaming: Throne and Liberty

Amazon Games is back with a new MMO called Throne And Liberty. After successes like New World and Lost Ark, this game is set to launch on October 1st. We spent some time playing it on PC to give you a first look at what to expect.

First Impressions

Throne And Liberty comes from NCSoft, a studio known for its MMO titles like LineAge and Aion. This new game is set in a magical world with stunning visuals. The first thing you'll notice is its amazing art style and near-invisible loading times, making the experience seamless.

Visuals and World Design

The game's world is vast and filled with incredible details. From colossal statues to ancient trees, everything feels gigantic. The visuals are enchanting, drawing you into the magical atmosphere right from the start. Even the introduction scene, featuring a whale in the sky, is breathtaking.

Character Creation

The avatar creation tool is comprehensive, allowing you to create a unique hero. Although it doesn't offer exotic races, the options for human characters are plentiful. There's even a feature to base your avatar on a photo, although it didn't work perfectly during our test.

Story and Setting

The story revolves around a fragmented star with immense power. Various factions, including the antagonist Calanthia, are vying for these fragments. Your character, a survivor of a tragic event, becomes central to this struggle to save the world.

Gameplay Mechanics

The game follows traditional MMO mechanics with a series of quests and a focus on combat. However, it offers a unique twist with its transformation abilities. Your character can turn into different animals like a feline for speed or an eagle for flight, adding a fresh dynamic to exploration.

  • Transform into a fast feline for sprinting
  • Become an eagle to glide from cliffs
  • Turn into an otter for underwater exploration

Combat System

Combat is dynamic and offers two control options: standard MMO or action RPG style. The game doesn't have traditional classes; instead, your abilities depend on the weapon you're using. This allows for a variety of combat styles and strategies.

Community and Multiplayer

Throne And Liberty emphasizes large-scale battles and community interaction. However, during our test, the player base was too small to fully experience these features. We'll need to see how this aspect develops post-launch.

Free-to-Play Model

As a free-to-play game, it includes the usual micro-transactions and Battlepass options. While cosmetic items are fine, pay-to-win elements could be problematic, especially in PvP scenarios. We'll keep an eye on how this affects the game balance.

Technical Performance

The game performs well technically, with good optimization and a quality soundtrack. However, there were some localization issues, like subtitles switching languages unexpectedly. Also, it currently doesn't work on Steamdeck due to anti-cheat measures.

Overall, Throne And Liberty looks promising with its stunning visuals and dynamic gameplay. The monetization model could be a concern, but we'll only know for sure once the game is live. Mark your calendars for October 1st and get ready to dive into this magical world.
