Massive Price Drop on Dark Souls Trilogy for PC Gamers

Why Dark Souls is Special
The first Dark Souls game quite literally saved me. Back in 2011, I tried it but never got past a few early bosses. However, in the summer of 2020, I needed a distraction and booted up the remaster. It became my new obsession, and I finally conquered its greatest challenges. It made me feel something at a time when I was beginning to feel nothing.
Dark Souls is tough and sometimes maddeningly archaic. You might struggle to follow any traditional narrative, but in return, you get one of the most beautiful and haunting experiences ever produced in gaming.
Dark Souls Remastered
Starting with Dark Souls Remastered, which is now available for $20 on Steam and Humble, you can see how the storied series first kicked off. The original PC version, titled the Prepare to Die Edition, struggled to run at acceptable frame rates. The 2018 remaster fixed these issues and performed much better.
Now, you can properly explore Lordran, one of my favorite settings in a video game. From the Undead Burg to the Kiln of the First Flame, every inch of that world is majestic and teeming with mysteries. It's quietly gorgeous, never flashy, but always expressive.
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
Dark Souls 2 has two versions currently on sale. The original Dark Souls 2 is $20, and the remastered Scholar of the First Sin is also $20 on Steam and Humble. Though seen as the dark horse of the Souls games, time has been kind to this ambitious sequel.
Dark Souls 2 leans harder into difficulty with mechanics like hollowing, which reduces the player's maximum HP with every death. It's one of the richest experiences in the series, filled with unique zones and challenging boss fights.
Dark Souls 3
Dark Souls 3 was the last game before the series went on hiatus in 2016. By then, the franchise had exploded into the mainstream. This trilogy capper depicted the prolonged apocalypse of its world and built off the foundation provided by Bloodborne, making the game quicker and more appealing to a broader audience.
Dark Souls 3 is filled with memorable boss encounters like the Nameless King and Slave Knight Gael. The base version is $30 on Steam and Humble, while the deluxe edition, featuring DLCs, is available for $42.
Why You Should Play Dark Souls
At the end of the day, Dark Souls is a once-in-a-generation series that you just have to try. FromSoft has released many incredible games, but none would have been possible without the impact of the original Dark Souls. It's one of the most important games and series of our time.
